Advisory support

Do you already have an international environment that is ready to welcome you and you have established all your contacts in the field? Your collaboration agreements are well established and you wish to continue the logistics and the procedures yourself? Do you want to benefit from the expertise of NWB?

Advisory support can meet some of your needs.

NWB offers an advisory support service to individuals or groups applying for this purpose. This service includes:

• Issuing tax receipts for your project (equivalent to a daily quota, donations of money and equipment).
• Access to all documents on the NWB Intranet (baggage list, list of drugs for which to ask your doctor, standard letter for sponsors, suggested protocols for the treatment of cooperant-traveler diarrhea, protocol in case of emergency, list of drugs and materials relevant to the clinical setting, etc.).
• Access to the services of a travel health nurse.
• Access to the services of a medical consultant.
• Thanks to its membership in AQOCI, NWB offers its cooperants access to comprehensive travel health insurance at competitive prices.
• 2 million global liability insurance.
• Depending on your needs, provide support and answers to your questions during your preparation process.
• Mandatory pre-departure training, adapted to your needs. Training costs are extra (refer to section NWB Pre-departure Training – Guarantee of Quality below).

As of 2020, the cost of advisory support is $ 100 per cooperant.

PROJECT SUPPORTED BY NWB

Are you a group, a teacher, a professor, an educational institution or a business owner? Do you want to have an experience of international cooperation in the health field?

Projects supported by NWB are supported by the NWB team from Canada with our local partners in Peru and Benin in collaboration with group leaders. A request for support must first be made to NWB, which will then contact its partners. Transport from the airport to the clinical environment, the organization of safe accommodation and meals, and the setting up of your clinical activities are taken care of by our coordinator in the host country.

This service includes – in addition to everything described in the advisory support section:

• A rigorous selection made by NWB of internship environments for their quality of welcome and quality of educational supervision.
• The environments selected by NWB meet the highest security standards.
• Very regular communication is maintained between NWB and the group leader, before, during and after the project.
• When you are in the field in the host country, NWB offers you:
• 24-hour availability when you are in the field;
• Close coordination with the local partner to avoid that the groups or the group leader find themselves having to manage delicate situations; NWB will always act as an intermediary with the local partner.
• NWB makes available and accessible in the host environment an emergency kit, including drugs in case of contact with biological fluids (Post Exposure Prophylaxis – HIV) and a set of drugs and protocols (diarrhea, major emergencies, etc.)
• NWB provides geolocation devices (cutting edge technology).
• NWB subscribes to transport insurance (land, river or helicopter) for all its volunteers in the event of a vital emergency in order to move you to a hospital center for medical treatment, wherever you are in the world.

NWB-SOLO PROJECT

Are you a practicing or retired medical or psychosocial health professional? Do you want to do something useful during your annual vacation? You are 1, 2 or 3 people and wish to participate in an international cooperation project in your field of health, within your area of expertise?

NWB brings together these motivated people and develops a project that meets the needs of the group thus formed. You will be accompanied by an experienced health professional from NWB. The NWB guide will be responsible for managing all the logistics and providing constant educational support in your clinical procedures with patients (questionnaire, physical examination, diagnosis, prescription, delivery, etc.)

It is necessary to envisage approximately 5 $ more per day per cooperant for this service and the group must be made up of 9 to 12 people.

APPROXIMATE COST FOR PROJECTS SUPPORTED BY NWB

NWB is a charity organization for health professionals that engages in cooperation projects and supports sustainable projects internationally by working with local populations. The safety of our volunteers is a priority at all times, we do our best to offer our services at competitive cost since we are a non-profit organization, but, like any international project, it is quite expensive.

Most of our volunteers replace their annual vacation with an international cooperation project. Tax receipts can be issued according to applicable tax standards for registered charities.

For Benin, the average cost is $ 60 per day per volunteer. This includes all NWB coordination costs in Canada and Benin, your internal travel, accommodation, meals and all your cultural outings.

For Peru, the average cost is $ 50 per day per cooperant. This includes all NWB coordination costs in Canada and Peru and, for the duration of your deep jungle project (Indiana and Santa Cecilia), your accommodation and your meals. Your cultural outings are at your expense and you have several options depending on your budget.

In order to reduce the sources of stress, we recommend that you start planning your schedule and your budget as soon as you think about undertaking this project! In addition, the majority of groups plan fundraising activities. The support of NWB makes it easier for you to access certain sources of income.

You should know that for security reasons and in order to reduce costs, NWB chose dormitory accommodation. Moreover, since the groups are not separated, this stimulates exchanges and the continuous integration of the experience. Finally, it is very similar to the working conditions of large humanitarian organizations.

Furthermore, before your departure, plan the following costs:

• NWB membership ($ 30 per cooperant)
• Air ticket (between $ 1,200 and $ 1,600)
• Full medical insurance ($ 60 to $ 120)
• Visa (for Benin $ 176, not required for Peru)
• International vaccination ($ 100 to $ 900)
• Your pre-departure training with NWB (mandatory, $ 100 per day)

NWB PRE-DEPARTURE TRAINING – GUARANTEE OF QUALITY

NWB offers mandatory pre-departure training for all members benefiting from one of its services. During the training weekend, important themes will be addressed: field logistics, presentation of clinical environments, student educational support, group management, funding, tropical pathologies, clinical approach specific to global health, travel vaccination, responsible tourism, cultural approach, etc.

The training will be given over 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in late September or early October in the Laurentians. All concerned groups will be notified by email of the training details.

Fees of approximately $ 100 per day per person will be requested for accommodation, meals, training and pre-trip consultation with a qualified health professional (nurse, specialized nurse practitioner, doctor, pharmacist).

Pre-departure training is compulsory for everyone each year. It is also an opportunity for supervisors to find themselves for the first time outside their usual environment. A reduction of $ 100 is provided for people who have already received this training in the past.

Finally, a pre-departure training session is planned remotely at the beginning of each year, at the same price, for those who could not attend in person.

FILE OPENING FEES

As soon as you submit your request for support, NWB begins the procedures to process your request. The coordinator of international projects drafts the contract and the first version of the cost breakdown, he contacts the partners, confirms the clinical environment, informs the local managers who will accompany you, plans the purchase of equipment, etc.

The file opening fees are $ 50 per cooperant, non-refundable, but will be deducted from your final invoice.
